    In great state

    Hello,

Does in great state mean the procession was a pompous, magnificient sight to see?

As we walked through the streets, we fell in with a great crowd, and then I remembered that some royal visitors were to proceed in great state to the Mansion House. I proposed to Barber that we should go and look at the procession, and he agreed more readily than I expected.

Master Of Fallen Years, Vincet O´Sullivan, 1921.

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: In great state

My guess is that it's some kind of formal, ceremonial procession.

Sounds good Johny. "Great pomp and circumstance", "a lot of ceremony", "fanfare".

    Re: In great state

    It probably was in 1921.
