Post "Tick" or "check" a checkbox

I'm working on a user manual for a PC-application where checkboxes are frequently used.

What is the correct word to use for selecting a check box, ticking or checking it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum, bardolino.

    There's no difference.

Re: "Tick" or "check" a checkbox

In BrE, we tend to use "tick" but then that's because we call it a "tick box" (or just a "box")! I say I "tick" or "put a tick in" even if it says "checkbox".

However, in the UK, we are becoming more and more familiar with the terms "check" and "checkbox" because they are used on so many international websites and online forms.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
