tense shift after a coordinating conjunction?

Is this sentence incorrect because after the 'and', the tense is shifted and the subject is omitted?
    `
"I have received a letter and will read it later."

I can't find anything wrong in the sentence.

    I think it's correct, isn't it?

it would sound more natural to me if you said:

I've received a letter but I'll read it later.

It's correct, but I think Zahari's idea of using 'but' sounds more natural as most people read letters when they get them.
