How should I end a formal email?

    Hello

What is the best way to end a formal email or letter?

At school I was taught that if you start a letter with "Dear Sir or Madam" you always end with "Yours faithfully".

Can this also be applied to emails or is it too formal?

    Thanks

    mscola

Re: How to end a formal email?

In a formal email, if you don't know the name of the recipient and have no way of finding it out, you can't go wrong with 'Dear Sir or Madam' and 'Yours faithfully'.

It's better to be thought of as too formal than too casual.

Please note that I have amended your thread title.

It's incorrect to start a question with 'How to?'
