went there to buy vs went there and bought

I am sure that my first sentence below is grammatically correct.

    (1) This morning, I went to the store to buy oranges.

Some native English speakers told me that my next sentence is grammatically wrong.

    (2) This morning, I went to the store and bought oranges.

Why can't you have two actions in the same sentence? Could someone please explain it? Thanks a lot.

    They are both grammatically correct.

Re: went there to buy vs went there and bought

In 1, we know that your intention when you left home to go to the shop was to buy oranges.
In 2, we only know that you bought oranges. It might have been an impulse purchase once you were in the shop.

As Rover said, they're both grammatically correct.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    One further comment:

In #1, you had the intent to buy oranges, but we don't know if you actually did.
In #2, we know you actually bought oranges.
