I am sure that my first sentence below is grammatically correct.
(1) This morning, I went to the store to buy oranges.
Some native English speakers told me that my next sentence is grammatically wrong.
(2) This morning, I went to the store and bought oranges.
Why can't you have two actions in the same sentence? Could someone please explain it? Thanks a lot.
