with of without an article before 'grocery shopping'

Should I use an article before ‘grocery shopping’ in the sentence:
In the morning I did the/a/(no article) grocery shopping and cleaned the house.

Only 'I did the shopping' is natural, but both 'I did (the) grocery shopping' are acceptable.
