    there is still space/room

In a multiple choice exercise for Cae there is the sentence: the look you want is neat but lived in - comfortable and cosy but suggesting that there is still ___ for a purchaser to put their own stamp on the house.
the options are: a) space b)room c)place d)capacity . In the key it says that the correct option is B. Now my question, why is A wrong? What's the difference between space and room here?

    thanks

My immediate reaction is B. That's the word I would have used had it not been multiple choice. However, I can't say categorically that A wouldn't work as well but "room" is the natural choice. It's used frequently in phrases like "room for improvement" etc. We would never say "space for improvement". Generally, "space" is used for a tangible, physical space.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
