as Samsung has found to its cost

    Hello everybody!

We want more and more from our phones but as Samsung has found to its cost, the one thing we demand above all others is that they are safe.

Do you agree with me that the bolded fragment could be replaced by "as Samsung has found/learnt the hard way" or "as Samsung has learnt to its cost" and the meaning would still be the same?

    Thank you.

They are close enough. I think the versions with 'to its cost' are more appropriate.

It has learned both to its cost (several billion dollars) and the hard way (loss of reputation).
