    reported speech

    Hello, dear forum users!

    ''I liked rock-music when I was 6", he said.
He said he had liked rock music when he had been 6.

    Is the reported sentence correct?
Seems like it must be ok, though 'had been 6' sounds unusual to me.

    Re: reported speech

Both past simple and past perfect are acceptable there. If context and/or co-text makes it clear that the speaker no longer likes rock music, then the past perfect is more likely.
