'WW I (has) forever changed the political map of Europe...

    Hello,

I think that instead of Present Perfect, Present Simple should be used in these sentences:

'WW I has forever changed not only the political map of Europe, but also the balance of power in the world.'

'What is even more important is that the Gallipoli Campaign, despite failing to achieve its military objectives, has changed the way the two countries (Australia and New Zealand) identified themselves.

My explanation is that both WW I and the Gallipoli Campaign ended a long time ago at a specified time. That is why Present Simple is correct.
I would even use inversion in the first sentence: 'Not only did WW I change forever the political map of Europe, but it also changed the balance of power in the world.'

    Thank you in advance.

Re: Present Perfect or Past Simple

If you mean 'past simple', you are right.

Also, note that the names of tenses are not proper nouns and should not be capitalized.
