    The investigation into

I am wondering if my sentence sounds correct. Would you please correct my mistakes?

The investigation into the embezzlement by the CEO has been closed because of the lack of evidence and witnesses.

    Re: The investigation into

I would express it as "The investigation into the alleged embezzlement by the CEO has been closed because of a lack of both witnesses and evidence".
Note, in particular, the inclusion of "alleged", to indicate that no embezzlement yet been proved against the CEO. I also put "witnesses" before "evidence" because the latter normally flows from the former.
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....
