Hello. I am preparing a presentation about the importance of vocabulary, and I am not sure whether the following sentences 'stick' together. I would really appreciate your opinion.

Here I give you the passage:

As the linguist David Wilkins observes, “without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed”. How we teach vocabulary is therefore central to the process of language teaching. A teacher’s challenge is not only to develop students’ knowledge of vocabulary, but also to do so in ways that facilitate long-term memorization.

Re: Asking for opinion

It looks good to me. I don't think you need also in the last sentence.

I used a correlative conjunction "Not only...but also". I guesss that without using "also", the sentence will lost its sense.

Re: Asking for opinion

I think "retention" is a better choice than "memorization."

I tend to think of "rote" when I see memorization, while "retention" feels more like you'd use it in the right context. I know this is subjective.

Thank you for that. But can I collocate "long-term" with "retention"? Is it fine?
