    4. Alex's a student.

    Hi,
    I know that 1, 2 and 3 are correct but can 4 be also correct? In 4 I have shorten "is".

    Shortening it doesn't work for any name ending in an "s" sound. It's fine with a name that ends with any other sound.

    Paul's a student.
    Tina's a student.
    Horatio's a student.
    James's a student.
    Alex's a student.
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    It doesn't work after the sounds of 'z', 'sh' or 'ch. either.
