    told me how...

    1) He told me how he liked to play tennis.
    2) He told me how he loved to play tennis.


    Does 'how' in these sentences mean:
    a) that (He told me that he...)
    or
    b) how much (He told me how much he...)

    How is how, and that is that, so you cannot just substitute one for the other just like that -- they mean different things.

    You will hear people say "He told me how he loved to play tennis" to mean the same as "He told me that ...". The use of "how" to replace "how much" is rather old-fashioned. A phrase such as "Oh, how I love thee" might be found in Shakespeare, meaning "Oh, how much I love you" or, more naturally "I love you so much!"
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
