The father knows what happens when he selects...

The father knows what happens when he selects each of his sons for the chairman post.
The father knows what happens when he selects each of his sons seperately for the chariman post.

    Similarly,
Americans know what happens when they select each of them - Trump and Hillary.

Please tell which of the above are right and also suggest better alternatives.
P.S. Please correct any errors above.

Re: The father knows what happens when he selects...

How could he select each of them for a single post?

The father knows what will happen when he selects any of his sons for the post of chairman.

Americans know what will happen when they select either of them. (They cannot select both, which is what is implied in your sentence.)

Re: The father knows what happens when he selects...

I'm sorry for the confusion. In "The father knows what happens when he selects each of his sons for the chairman post", the intended meaning is he knows how well the company would do when he chooses eldest son, similarly he knows how well it would do if it is the middle son, and similarly for the youngest son.
P.S. Please correct any errors above.

Re: The father knows what happens when he selects...

"If he select any of his sons" - this sounds like bunching all the three sons in the same category; like, the father knows the company will reach new heights if makes any of his sons chairman. But the intention is to tell the father knows what happens when he makes each of his sons chairman separately; he knows what happens if he makes son A the chairman, similarly son B, and son C.
P.S. Please correct any errors above.

Note my corrections above. You can add one to avoid the "bunching" effect: He knows what will happen if he selects any one of his sons as chairman.

    Thank you.
    1. " ...if he selects an
y one of his sons as chairman" - shouldn't there have been article "the" before chairman? Please explain.
    2. Isn't comma optional after son B?

    1. No. Think of the phrase as an alternate version of one of his sons in the role of chairman.

    2. No. A comma wouldn't work there.
