    sick = refer to cancer?

    Hi,

    I'd like to ask if we can use the word 'sick' to describe long term and serious diseases such as 'cancer'. Or must I use only the word 'ill' for them?

    Thanks!

    I, a speaker of BrE, would use 'ill'.

    'Sick' and 'ill' are used especially in American English and British English respectively according to the above pages.
