    Question 5 helpings of fruits/veggies

    Hi,

I often read in health literature something like this -
"Eat 5 helpings of fruits a day." (or 5 helpings of veggies).
How much quantity does 5 helpings constitute?
Does it mean the equivalent of 5 tablespoons of
diced fruits/veggies, or something like that?

    Thanks

    Re: 5 helpings of fruits/veggies

It actually depends upon the type of fruit or veggie. One helping or serving of each is considered to be as follows:
    Vegetable Group
1 cup of raw leafy vegetables -or-
cup of other vegetables-cooked or raw -or-
    cup of vegetable juice
    Fruit Group
1 medium apple, banana, orange, pear -or-
cup of chopped, cooked, or canned fruit -or-
    cup of fruit juice
