    par excellence

"From cosmetics over hair style to physical operations this naturally depends on the role we wish to play in our every day life. It becomes
obvious that the mask still is a fascinating and enigmatic object par excellence.
It is characterized by the disturbing strangeness of a feigned image as well as by the seductive game with the outward appearance."

I was reading a text about masks and then this sentence was appeared. what does it mean? does par excellence mean very much?

    Re: par excellence

It means "it is not exceeded in quality by anything else [in the same category]" - it's the best of its kind.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: par excellence

It's a French expression, commonly and more helpfully italicised in English text.

Looking up 'par' in most English dictionaries will not lead you to the meaning of the phrase. Entering the italicised phrase is more likely to.
