    To have a stomach for something

    Hi There;
    I have a passage from The Economist:

    Improving social mobility will mean allowing rich children to move down as well as helping poor ones to move up. Does the government have the stomach for it?

    what does "to have a stomach for something" mean?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: To have a stomach for something

    It means to have the fortitude to do something; to be willing to do it.

    Ask What does "to have the stomach for something" mean?

    Re: To have a stomach for something

    It's always "to have the stomach for ...", not "a".
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
