I would choose ( follows) but the answer is (will follow)What do you think?

The question is not worded correctly. Does the original include a space before the comma and the word "the" after it?

You could write If our heart stops, death soon follows, but it's not natural.

If you're trying to describe a common/habitual fact, then "When the heart stops, death soon follows" works. My biology isn't great so it might be the case that "When the heart stops, death is instantaneous".

Depending on age and body temperature, people can be revived after anywhere from three minutes to several hours of cardiac arrest. It's very rare to survive more than a couple of minutes though.
