    the problem of ...

Do these sentences work with the given meanings:

    1) He was thinking about the problem of his wife and that man.

He was thinking about the problem of the relationship of his wife and that man.

    2) He was thinking about the problems of his wife and those men.
He was thinking about the problems which were the relationships of his wife and those man.

    -----------

    3) He was thinking about the problem of his wife with that man.
He was thinking about the problem of the relationship of his wife and that man.

    4) He was thinking about the problems of his wife with those men.
He was thinking about the problems which were the relationships of his wife and those man.

I think '3' and '4' unambiguously mean that he was thinking about the problems his wife was having with that man/those men.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

I think you are right. He was thinking about the problem(s) his wife was having with that man (those men).
