A song can be part of a unit that also contains poems

In the following passage from the article "Using English in the Adult ESL classroom" by Kristen Lems, the author suggests that teaching through songs may expand students' cultural knowledge.
However, I do not quite understand the sentence in bold. Could you explain that to me please? How can it be said in other words? It means that there might be some poems, video footages, etc. connected with a song?

"Songs can be used in discussions of culture. They are a rich mine of information about human relations, ethics, customs, history, humor, and regional and cultural differences. A song can be part of a unit that also contains poems, video footage, or still photographs. Recordings of freedom songs from the civil rights movement can be a powerful accompaniment to watching Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech on video, for example"

Re: A song can be part of a unit that also contains poems

A unit is a segment of a curriculum covering a significant length of time -- perhaps a minimum of a week or so, but I'm not a teacher and I'm not sure about that. The sentence means that a song is a suitable component of such a segment that also includes poems, videos, etc.
    I am not a teacher.

So it means that a teacher can make use of songs, poems, videos etc. that are somewhat connected thematically in order to talk about foreign culture?

Note my correction above. We don't form a question by writing a declarative sentence and simply adding a question mark at the end. You'll hear it in spoken English but correct question constructions should be used in written English and on this forum.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
