It'll be surprising ____________________ her piano exam.

    Hello.
    - It'll be surprising ____________________ her piano exam.
    A- unless Rachel passes
B- if Rachel doesn't pass (key)
    Why is A incorrect, please?

Re: It'll be surprising ____________________ her piano exam.

That's a tricky one. It'll be surprising -- unless Rachel passes her piano exam would be possible after something like "Do you think Rachel's going to get into Juilliard?" It's not typical though. The exam's author is thinking of the more usual case where someone is admiring Rachel's skill at the piano.
    I am not a teacher.

By the way, I have been taught not to use UNLESS in type 2 and type 3 conditional. However, I have found some webs saying it is correct to use it in them.
I am confused now. Help please.

Who told you that? It's not true.

(I wouldn't say that unless I were sure.)
