    I can't start the computer

Hello everyone! I'm trying to learn English since few years now, I know I still make mistakes about grammar, in general basic grammar...
I'm posting a message here, to try to understand some answers to questions that have been yet corrected (that I know it's the right answers) but I don't understand why and I don't have any teacher to ask to...
    Anyways, here is my problem:

1- "I can't start the computer. You................a password." -> "must know" is incorrect, why? / "must have to know" -> correct answer

Question and answer from the Study Guide of Advanced Grammar in use, Cambridge, Hewings, 2005.
Thank you for helping me progressing...
    Best
    Audrey

    Re: Diverse grammar quesitons

It gets very confusing when multiple, unconnected questions are asked in a single thread. Respondents might want to respond to just one, or a few, or all of them and comments get very muddled. Please limit yourself to one question per thread.
You can use the "Edit Post" function to remove questions 2 to 7, leaving just question 1. When you have received satisfactory responses to that, go ahead with question 2.
    Thanks.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: Diverse grammar quesitons

And please give each thread a title which contains some of the words you are asking about, such as 'I can't start the computer', 'admitted stealing', 'postponed a decision' etc.

I modified what you ask me to, except that I can't find how to change the title of my thread

'Must have to know' is possible in the sense of 'it is a logical certainty that you have to to know'.
'You have to know', suggesting an externally-imposed obligation is also possible.'You must know', suggesting an internally-imposed obligation, does not work here.

I have changed the thread title for this thread so that you (or anyone else) can find it easily in future.

Re: I can't start the computer

Yes, thank you, but I think the title should rather be : "Must/ Must have to" which was the purpose of my question

Re: I can't start the computer

I understand your point but you could post lots of different sentences in separate threads, all of which involve you wanting to use "must/must have to". It is much less likely that you will post lots of different threads involving the sentence "I can't start the computer". The idea is to make your post easily findable.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
