If I win I'm going to...

    Dear all,

In a debate with Hilary Clinton, President elect Donald Trump said to her, "If I win, I'm going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation".

I thought that using "will", rather than "be going to", was preferred after a conditional clause such as "if ....".

e.g. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I will play succer (not I'm going to play soccer).

Or is it common to say, "If the weather is nice, I'm going to play soccer"?

    OP

In spoken AmE, yes, that's much more common than will.

It depends on the word order, though. We'd be very likely to say I'll play soccer if the weather is nice.
    I am not a teacher.

    It's not uncommon.
