for the first time in x years

    Hello, teachers!

    I've found the following:

    1. That was the coldest day in 20 years.

This is a translation from a Japanese sentence.
I myself wrote #2 as the translation of the same Japanese sentence.

    2. That was the coldest day for the first time in 20 years.

Is #2 natural? If not, which part is wrong?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

    yam!

The original is natural; your version is not.

You could say The temperature fell to minus thirty for the first time in twenty years.

The part that's wrong is for the first time.
    I am not a teacher.
