    Red face expression

    Hello, I would like to know what the underlined expression means.

    "A man of many gaps, Toscanini had a leadership style that was fashioned by the times he lived through."

    Does the word "gaps" mean something like "times" here? Thank you.

    I would guess that it means that he was not consistent in his leadership.
