    On the 10th anniversary

Would you please take a look at my sentences and correct my mistakes?

1.On the 10th anniversary of his father's death, the President went to Switzerland to ski instead of taking part in commemoration.
or maybe I should used "skiing" instead?

    2. On the 10th anniversary of his father's death, the President went to Switzerland skiing instead of taking part in commemoration.

    Re: On the 10th anniversary

I'd say "went skiing in Switzerland".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
