    using conjunction

    Hi everyone,

    Can anyone tell me is there a problem if we start a new sentence with a conjunction? like in this paragraph

    ''The shop was busy, and the man asked the shepherd to wait until the afternoon. So the boy sat on the steps of the shop and took a book from his bag"

    by the way, is it supposed to have a comma before "and" in the second phrase, isn't it?

    thanks

    By the way, there is supposed to be a comma before "and" in the second [sentence, actually], isn't there?

    You do not NEED the comma before and conjunction "and" in either sentence. Some people still insist that you use a comma before a conjunction that separates two independent clauses, but most people don't feel this way. However, if you use it in one sentence (and you did), you should be consistent in your use.

    Regarding your main question: It's quite common to start sentences with conjunctions in all but the most formal writing, as long as you don't do it too often.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
