Peter was listening to the beginning

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural. Would you please correct my mistakes?

Peter was listening to the beginning of Zed Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and switched it off because it reminded him of his former girlfriend.

Re: Peter was listening to the beginning

I'd probably change "and" to "but", and maybe start with "Peter started listening to ..."

Shouldn't the name of the song be in inverted commas?

I think you are wrong, Rover. If you read novels published recently, for example, you will see neither italics nor inverted commas. That was the old rule which many writers and editors ignore nowadays.

You can do that if you split it into two sentences, the second one starting with "However, ...".
