    It's 6:30

    6:30

    Hi,
For the above times we usually say "It's half past 6."

Can we also say "It's half to 7."?

You can say that it's half six or six thirty.

This is common in informal BrE for 6.30, but it can be confusing for speakers of languages such as German in which the equivalent words mean 5.30.

Confusing for Americans, too, who don't use that expression.

Admittedly, but that doesn't stop it being used in one variant.

    Re: It's 6:30

As you have no doubt worked out by now, in BrE we have three possible answers to this. They are all equally acceptable.

    It's six-thirty.
    It's half past six.
    It's half six.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

I wouldn't say 'half six' isn't used at all in AmE, but it is used very rarely.

For some reason, I associate it with older generations.
