[Grammar] don't matter much or don't much matter

Sentence1:
The events beyond the flotilla don't much matter to the average citizen.

Sentence2:
But statistics don't matter much if it's your child that's shot, said Missy Carson Smith.

I got the first one from mass effect in-game dialog and the second one from CNN. I also googled "don't much matter" for other instances to make sure that the first sentence doesn't have a typo.

Then I'm confused. Do they have the same meaning? Is it just a personal choice to use which one?

I'd use "don't matter much" but I've heard the other construction.

It doesn't much matter which you say. They mean the same.

I think that "It don't much matter" is more rustic than "It don't matter much." Having said that, they are both pretty rustic.

Regardless of the choice of "matter much" and "much matter", you're going to sound "rustic" if you say "It don't" instead of "It doesn't".
