    You could have warned him. You could have complained, if he had done it again.

    A to B- "B you complained about C just because of a joke and C got fired. You could have warned him. You could have complained, if he had done it again despite your warning. You should have given him a chance."

    Thank you, actually I was a bit confused about this part "You could have complained, if he had done it again despite your warning." The person has already been fired and we are imagining a situation that would have taken place, if he hadn't been fired. That is why I was a little unsure.

    That is already understood. You said originally "and C got fired". So, the answer doesn't change.
