He wants always to look smart/ He wants to always look smart/He wants to look always

Whic of the following variants is the best?

    1) He wants always to look smart.
    2) He wants to always look smart.
    3) He wants to look always smart.
If I were a native speaker of English, I would never shut up. :-)

Number 3 is incorrect. The other two are not very natural. Write He always wants to look smart.

In American English, this means he wants to look intelligent. I believe it means he wants to look well-groomed and well-dressed In BrE.

There really isn't a simple equivalent in AmE.
