    The information gathered from official sources may be much more valuable than this from undercover operations.

    I wonder whether or not I used articles and this "this" in bold.

    There's no context. It's just a loose sentence.

    Two pieces of information were collected, one from official sources, the other one from some confidential ones.
    It turns out that the official information is more accurate.

    You should write than that from undercover operations if you want to use this construction, where "that" refers back to "the information". The way you expressed it in post #3 is easier to understand, though.
