    get up close and personal

Visitors are also able to see various penguins and seals, some of which are bold enough to get up close and personal.

    Hi,
Is it right to see "personal" in the above as "intimate?" If not, what does it mean? Thanks.

Possibly, depending upon which definition of 'intimate' you're considering.

Some of the animals will come close enough you could potentially touch them (although that's a bad idea), almost as if you're the only person there to see them.
