    Work hard as we did

    Hello!
I know that the phrase "Try hard as we did" is correct. What about this one?

Work hard as we did, the cup was beyond our reach. It was too early.

    Perhaps:

Although we worked hard, we didn't succeed.

(Despite what you "know" I wouldn't use the first one.)
