I feel like I were a forklift truck or I feel as if I were a forklift truck

    Hello everybody!

The other day the operator of a battery-charged trolley and I carried a few cardboard boxes up the stairs to help our secretary. On my way up to the department door, I said jokingly "I feel like I were a forklift truck".

We know how a forklift truck operates, so I think I was right to compare carrying boxes up the stairs to the operation of a forklift truck.

Do you think that "I feel like I were a forklift truck" is properly formulated or should I write "I feel as if I were a forklift truck"? I certainly wouldn't write "I feel like I am a forklift truck because I would have to be a machine to say so.

    What is your opinion?

    Thank you.
