"During the past three centuries, the cosmology derived from science has been asserting itself at the expense of older points of view with their origins elsewhere.

What does it mean by "the cosmology derived from science" ?

The scientific view has become more accepted at the expense of non-scientific views of things like astrology.

"Deriving of cosmology" from science? What does this mean? Does it mean "cosmology was borned from science" ?

Thank you.

There have been various explanations for the cosmos- religious and others like astrology - but the view of the planets and the stars that comes from science has been edging the others out. For example, it was held by the church that the sun went round the earth until people like Galileo challenged the idea. Since then, the scientific view that the earth goes round the sun has won out.

Yes, that's roughly what it means.
Or saying another way "other science branches such as mathematics, physics help to appear/come out/occur cosmology" I think this is exactly what "cosmology derived from science" means.

What do you think of ?

Thank you.

I don't think so at all. It is contrasting different views of the cosmos, which is why it says the cosmology, to distinguish it from other comsologies, and it says that the scientific cosmology is beating the others. There have been many different theories out forward from religions, philosophy, superstition, etc, and science has been pushing these to one side.

Is it "derivation of cosmology from science" instead of "deriving of cosmology from science" ?

Thank you.

It is the cosmology that has been derived from science.

It's the version/understanding/paradigm of cosmology that has derived from science, as opposed to the version derived from astrology, or religion, etc.
