    Each of them trying to prove...

    Context: A debate between a man and a lady.

    Each of them trying to prove he/she is better than the other.
    Either of them trying to prove they are better.
    Either tried to prove he/she is better.

    Please tell me whether the above sentences correct? Colloquially?

    I think you need a "was" after them in (1) and (2).

    Both of them were trying to prove to the other that they were right.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
