    running a little late

I was going to call on the way, but I forgot my cellphone. I was running a little late, so I didn't want to go back for it.

    Hi,

Is "running" in the above interchangeable with "being?" What other alternatives fit in the context? Thanks.

    Re: running a little late

No, 'being' and 'running' aren't interchangeable at all in this context.

Are you looking for alternatives to 'running' or 'running late'?

If the latter, you could say "I was running behind". I'm sure others will chime in with more.

If you want an alternative to 'running', you'll have to choose a new phrase entirely.

    Re: running a little late

You can omit running without changing the meaning.
