    Re: Freedom, part six

Second paragraph. Things were hardly in pristine condition (untouched by human hands), but maybe they were in good condition or even excellent condition.

    Re: Freedom, part six

    Second paragraph. Say:

There was nothing to do but watch TV, which I did not understand anyway, so I took long walks on the beach. The wind was blowing here also, although the sky was dazzling blue and the sun blazing. The beach was clean and equipped with all kinds of facilities, like changing cubicles, showers, toilets, and even clocks on large poles. Everything was in good condition, but there were no bathers at all. I saw just one or two people with their dogs.

    Re: Freedom, part six

    Third paragraph. Say:

In the middle of June the Adriatic is teeming with tourists, but here I had the impression that the tourist season had not even started.

    Re: Freedom, part six

    Say:

There were many chalets painted in bright colors, but they were all shuttered, and the streets of the little town were mostly empty. At that time I did not know that the main holiday season in Sweden starts in July, and June is just an ordinary month in which people go to their work as usual.

    Re: Freedom, part six

    Fourth paragraph. Say:

There wasn't any trace of birds, and I did not even see any seagulls there.

    Re: Freedom, part six

    Tarheel,

I am wondering about the sentence in your post No. 10
"Because we both spoke a Slavic language, we understood each other well."

Is it correct to say "we understood each other well," or should it be "each others well"?

    Tarheel,
Your post No. 15: There wasn't any trace of birds, and I did not even see any seagulls there.

I think I could use "either" instead of "there." What do you think?

There wasn't any trace of birds, and I did not even see any seagulls either.

    Re: Freedom, part six

    Next paragraph. Say:

I had not followed the news from Bosnia in the few days since I had arrived in Sweden, but I had no reason to believe anything had changed, and as far as I knew the killings and crimes were still occurring with undiminished ferocity.

Well, of course, seagulls are birds. So what you are saying is that even though you didn't see any other birds you expected to at least see seagulls, but you didn't see them either.

    Hey, that's it!

Even though you are talking about several people "each other" still applies. Besides, the one (each other) is used, and the other is not.
