In the following sentence should I say "is required" or "are required"?

I would be really grateful if you could let me know whether further details about my academic background and motivations is required.

In my language "is required" is more common even if details is plural. What is about English?

It has to be 'are'.

Simplify the sentence:

I would be really grateful if you could let me know whether further details are required.

Or, just change details to 'information.'
