The use of olive oil and fresh vegetables

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural.

The use of olive oil and fresh vegetables are the cornerstones of the Mediterranean diet.

Re: The use of olive oil and fresh vegetables

    It's ungrammatical.

    Delete 'The use of'.
