Hi,

How to say year 2017?

1). twenty seventeen
2). two thousand and seventeen.
3). two thousand seventeen.
4). two zero one seven

Which is correct and which is wrong.
Thanks.

I would use 1 and 2.

I only use 1, on the basis that we only say nineteen seventeen and twenty-one seventeen when naming years.

2 is BE, 3 is AE and 4 is wrong.

For me, it's #2.
I always assumed that #1 would be the AmE way of saying it.

#1 would be my first choice, followed by #2.

For the first 9 years, I'd probably use the "two thousand" version (two thousand and one/two ... nine), but from 2010 onwards I'd be more likely to use "twenty + number" (twenty ten, eleven ... nineteen).

Number 1 has become the norm. For the first ten years or so of the new century, American usage favored two thousand three, two thousand seven, etc. Now that we're well into the teens, the natural practice is to follow the long-established century number-year number pattern. I think the same thing happened in the first decade of the twentieth century.

1 is the most common, and is what I use.
2 and 3 are OK, but I prefer 2 (I'm American, but I like keeping the "and" in numbers.)
4 is wrong.

Why not continue to say it the way you have been using for 2015, 2016, etc.

"How to say year 2017?" is not a question.
