    No 5 or 5 cards?

Jorge had 55 football cards. He traded 8 cards for 5 from Elise. He traded 6 more for 4 from Leon and 5 for 3 from Bret. Finally, he traded 12 cards for 9 from Ginger. How many cards does Jorge have now?

Sorry for asking about a math question. In math questions likes this, does the underlined 5 mean "No 5(only one card)" or "5 cards"? Depending on this, the answer can differ dramatically. It's confusing!

Re: No 5 or 5 cards?

    Jorge had 55 football cards. He traded 8 cards for 5 from Elise. (8-5 = 3). He traded 6 more for 4 from Leon (6-4 = 2) and 5 for 3 (5- 3 - 2) from Bret. Finally, he traded 12 cards for 9 ( 12-9 =3) from Ginger. (3+2+2+3 = 10) How many cards does Jorge have now?
    55-10 - 45.
