Hi

I've just written the below but I feel it doesn't read as well as it could. Could someone please correct me and give me a few pointers? I would be ever so grateful.

"I confirm your appointment for a consultation with Dr Surname on Monday 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] January 2017 at 17.50pm."

Many thanks

Perhaps:
Your appointment with Dr Surname for consultation on Monday, 23 Jan 2017 at 17.50 pm. is confirmed.

It is better to do away with "I" in official writing.

I don't agree with this advice. If you avoid the first person, you'll end up writing everything in the passive voice.

I do agree that in many kinds of formal writing, overuse of the first person is poor style.

OK, that might have been a bit of an over-generalisation bit don't you think it is better not to use "I" in the context of the sentence?

I would stick with starting with "I" but would probably word it "I am writing/emailing to confirm your appointment with [name] at [time] on [date]."
