We use 'the' with mountain ranges and island groups.

    Hello,
    Could you please help me?
We use 'the' with mountain ranges and island groups.
Do we use 'the' with a single mountain, e.g. EVEREST?
Do we use 'the' with an island?

Thank you very much in advance.

    No, not usually.

    Re: The

We use double quotes in American English. Single quotes are conventional and correct in the British variety.

    Re: The

I use double quotation marks for everything except quotes within quotes, and I'm a BrE speaker.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: The

I meant to write a bit more to explain that British usage accepts either style, while American usage generally favors double quotes.

    Re: The

I use double quotes for phrases and sentences, and single quotes for single words. It's idiosyncratic, but it's not wrong.
