he couldn't stand his own glare. illustrator just wanted to make the sun look fun

Child (looking at an alphabet chart and pointing at "S is for Sun"): Why is the sun happy?

Parent: Well, maybe because he likes shining on everybody.

Child: Why is he wearing sunglasses?

Parent: Probably because he's so bright he couldn't stand his own glare.

Child: Why is he giving a thumbs up?

Parent: Well, the illustrator of this chart just wanted to make the sun look fun. That's why he gave him sunglasses and made him do a thumbs up.

Do you say he couldn't stand his own glare?

Do the answers above sound like something native speakers would have said?

You could also explain that sunshine usually makes people happy so a "thumbs up" reaction might be what people would give when they see the sun.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
